How have the past few years been for recruiters? A quick glance at the numbers tells the story at a high level: While the tech workforce was reduced by 10 to 20% in 2023, those in recruiting tech were disproportionately impacted, being downsized by 50%.
With all the changes in the market, TA leaders are turning to recruiting technology to streamline tasks and focus on high-impact activities.
This was the topic of a recent webinar “Maximizing your enterprise recruiting tech stack”, where Hilary Yeganegi, Senior Partner Marketing Manager at Calendly, moderated a discussion between Bryan Tereza, Director of Sales Engineering at Greenhouse, Kashia Morton, Senior Manager of Recruiting at Calendly and Steve Cosme, Recruiting Manager at Pendo.
Let’s explore a few key themes from their conversation.
The imperative to do more with less
“Doing more with less” is a common refrain among TA leaders and pros. Kashia sees this in terms of evaluating and selecting the right recruiting tech tools: “Being able to thrive in this ever-changing world of TA means committing to continuous improvement and it’s key that organizations are forward-thinking and proactive in assessing and optimizing their tech stacks.”
“With technology, what it boils down to is that the right tools create efficiencies and allow the team to scale as needed to meet the business where they are.” – Kashia Morton, Senior Manager of Recruiting, Calendly
Must-have recruiting technology
If you’re whittling down your recruiting tech stack to the absolute essentials, what should make the cut? According to Forbes, 2024 recruiting budgets will be focused on the following:
- AI-powered recruiting tools
- DE&I initiatives
- Candidate relationship management
- Applicant tracking systems (ATS)
- Career sites
- Sourcing technologies
- Job boards and offers
On the topic of must-have recruiting technology, Kashia said, “We feel that our ATS is optimal in helping us be conscientious, not just of our employee experience but automating our processes and communications and being thoughtful about how we help our candidates move through the journey we created.”
Steve said Pendo is prioritizing candidate nurturing and engagement, leaning on the integration between diversity sourcing tools and Greenhouse to seamlessly transition prospects into candidates: “That integration component is great, so when I see someone who’s interested and we have a role come open on Greenhouse, I can get them into process as soon as possible.”
Speaking of integrations, Bryan said that they should empower each recruiting tech tool to do what it does best while minimizing distractions for the people using them. “It can cause a ton of exhaustion when you’re having to switch between tools and contexts. Greenhouse really is the hub to the hub and spoke model. It’s critical for us to build integrations that don’t cause additional burden on users.”
Automation + personalization = the key to success
Wondering how the right recruiting tech tools can streamline your recruiting workflow? Steve shared how the Greenhouse and Calendly integration allows him to automate several steps of the scheduling process while still creating a personalized experience for each candidate.
Steve shares relevant information ahead of interviews so candidates go in knowing exactly what to expect. Another game-changer for a transparent interview process? Steve provides all candidates who pass the first interview screen with a link to a 15-minute call. They can use this time to do a quick check-in and learn where they are in the pipeline or what to expect in their next interview stage. “It has been an amazing lift in giving people engagement so they can have a successful experience and process,” said Steve.
